Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed his dream of winning a specific trophy as he hinted he would be open to joining Real Madrid. The 26-year-old is coming to the end of his contract at Liverpool and is yet to sign new terms, meaning he could leave on a free transfer next summer.

Alexander-Arnold has won every trophy available during his time at Liverpool, but has his sights set on winning the ultimate individual honour. He wants to become the first full-back to win the Ballon d'Or and is confident in his ability to achieve it.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, the Liverpool defender said: “My main goal? I would say to win a Ballon d'Or, because I believe I can. I want to be the first full-back to achieve that.”

Liverpool have only ever had one of their players win the Ballon d'Or, with Michael Owen achieving the feat in 2001. Since then, several Real Madrid players have won it with Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema all lifting the prestigious trophy. .

This suggests Alexander-Arnold could boost his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or by joining the Spanish giants at the end of the season. If he doesn't sign a new deal at Liverpool before January, there will be nothing stopping him from agreeing a future move to the Bernabeu.

Players in the final year of their existing contract will be able to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs at the end of the year. This means Liverpool have just a few weeks to sort things out before losing the England international.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has claimed he is not worried about Alexander-Arnold having his head turned by Real Madrid, raising hopes he will decide to extend his stay at Anfield.

“These players are used to being linked to every big club on a daily basis, whether they have a contract or not,” Slot said earlier this month.

“If you think they are disturbed by these interests, then I think you are not doing justice to their mental strength and what they are used to. That is part of our job. I was at Feyenoord the year last and they linked me with many clubs and before that and before that.

“It's part of the world we live in. You just focus on what you have to do. Maybe if you're 17 or 18 it might be difficult for you. But Trent won the league, won the Champions League.”
