Premier League clubs are finalizing their plans for a busier than usual January transfer window. Many teams are in desperate need of reinforcements after a difficult start to the season in the top flight.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham have all suffered relative underperformance this season. All three will need to improve their rankings if they are to improve significantly in the second half of the campaign.
Despite exceeding all expectations, Liverpool and Chelsea could benefit from an extra boost to give them an even better chance of winning the championship. January has been a relatively quiet month for the Premier League's big hitters in recent seasons – but it seems extremely unlikely that will be the case this time around.

Chelsea prepare £58m bid
Chelsea are reportedly willing to spend almost £60million to resolve their goalkeeping woes.
Robert Sanchez is currently their No.1 goalkeeper, but has had an error-prone spell at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have therefore launched an offer for reliable Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
Dortmund will apparently struggle to hold on to the Swiss if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
German publication BILD reports that Dortmund value the 27-year-old at £58million.

Man Utd 'sanctions Marcus Rashford swap deal'
Manchester United are reportedly in discussions with Barcelona to eventually land Frankie de Jong – with Marcus Rashford heading in the opposite direction.
El Nacional claim United are ready to approve a swap deal to allow outcast Rashford to leave.
The striker has been left out of Ruben Amorim's squad again, this time for the Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham.
Midfielder De Jong has been a long-term target since the start of the Erik ten Hag era.
United hope to finally land their man.
