Manchester United's need for recruitment was reinforced by a 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle last night (Monday). But they are not the only ones looking for opportunities during the January transfer window, which is only a few hours away.

Manchester City have a huge amount of ground to make up in the title race, while Arsenal are also catching up with Liverpool, who could scour the market for their own signings to seal a second Premier League crown.

As always, business will certainly be frenetic towards the bottom of the table, where the likes of Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City are battling the threat of relegation.

Chelsea target Ruben Amorim blow

Chelsea are looking to spoil Manchester United's transfer plans after joining the race for Randal Kolo Muani.

United are exploring a deal for the out-of-favour Paris Saint-Germain striker, who will be allowed to leave the French club next month.

But according to Foot Mercato, Chelsea are also in the mix, with a host of other top European clubs looking to pounce on the £76m star.

Kolo Muani has scored twice and recorded an assist in 10 Ligue 1 matches this season.

Casemiro agrees to leave Man Utd

Casemiro, a Manchester United regular, agreed to leave the club in January, according to UOL.

The midfielder's next destination is not yet clear, but clubs in the Saudi Pro League are reportedly interested in signing him.

Any potential Saudi suitor would first have to sell players, each having maxed out their quota of foreign stars aged over 21.

But Casemiro is a long-time target, and their best chance to sign him could come in next month's window.

The Brazilian was criticized for his performance in United's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle on Monday night.
