The French Football Federation (FFF) rejectedRequest from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to review the order from the Professional Football League (LFP) to pay 55 million euros to the club in unpaid salaries and bonuses to former player Kylian Mbappe. On October 25, the LFP's joint appeals committee ruled in favor of Mbappé. Following this decision, PSG informed the AFP that it would not make the payment within the one-week deadline, citing disagreements over interpretation of the contract.
The club had 10 days to submit a request for review to the executive committee of the FFF. However, PSG submitted this request a day late, which led the FFF to reject it. As a result, the club is now obliged to pay the €55 million to Mbappé or take the matter to court. According to club sources, they will opt for the latter route, as they have no intention of making the payment on the current terms.
PSG has made its position clear to the LFP
From the beginning, PSG made its refusal clear comply with the decision of the LFP by referring the matter to the competent courts. A club spokesperson explained PSG's position: “What is at issue, and which will be resolved by an appropriate court, is that the original contract has been legally modified in August 2023 for the 2024/2025 season. This change was fully recognized by the player even in January 2024, until he decides to renege on all his commitments by leaving the club.”
PSG also announced that it would continue the procedure in other cases. According to the spokesperson: “As a matter of principle, we appealed the non-binding decision of September 13 to the National Joint Appeals Commission, despite its limited effect. Now that the Appeals Commission has confirmed the decision of the Legal Commission, we are obliged to bring the matter before the competent courtswhile continuing, despite repeated bad faith, to try to find an amicable solution with the player“.
Thus, the FFF rejected PSG's appeal due to the delay in its filing. With this decision, the dispute between the club and Kylian Mbappé seems destined to be resolved in court.
