Tata Martino asks MLS for flexibility with the salary cap and to facilitate the arrival of Neymar at Inter Miami

Even the head coach of Inter Miami Gerardo 'Tata' Martino spoke about the possibility of bringing Neymar at Inter Miami during a recent press conference, which certainly defines the alarm bells ring in MLS on the possibility of a trident reunion.

Asked at a press conference about the possibility of bringing in another former Barcelona star in Neymar, the Argentine coach said it could happen, although MLS would first have to be more “flexible” with the cap league salary to add another potential star.

Could Inter Miami sign Neymar under MLS rules?

Major League Soccer has a salary cap that, in general, should not exceed approximately $5.5 million per week for a team of 20 players, with each player not exceeding $683,750 in weekly salary.

Each team is allowed three “designated players”whose salaries may exceed the maximum imposed by the league, i.e. Lionel Messi, Leo Campana and Sergio Busquets.

Under current rules, if Inter Miami wants to acquire Neymarhe would first have to remove the designated player tag from any of these players and give it to the Brazilian. Additionally, under other MLS roster construction rules, other pieces would have to be moved to make room for Neymar.
