Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim targeted Man City and Oasis
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has made a subtle dig at rivals Manchester City, a move that will only endear him even more to the club's fans.
He is only four matches and a month into his reign at Old Trafford, but Amorim already seems to understand the importance of the club's rivalries.
During a question and answer session with football fans, one supporter asked the Portuguese if he had managed to get his hands on tickets for Oasis ahead of their world tour next year.
Oasis members Liam and Noel Gallagher are both die-hard City fans and Noel is often spotted in the stands at the Etihad for home games.
Noel even bizarrely joined TNT Sports' coverage of a Champions League match for Amorim's final match in charge of Sporting Lisbon against City – and the United boss had the last laugh with a memorable 4- 1 at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Perhaps remembering this, Amorim – with a chuckle – told Sky Sports: “With the media and the games, I don't [even] have time to shower! I shower, I eat, Manchester United and the media. That's all.”
The presenter then asked again to confirm that Amorim would not be watching Oasis in concert – and he didn't miss the opportunity to take a look at Manchester City.
“So no tickets for Oasis?” the presenter said, to which Amorim replied with a smile: “No, no, no. You know why.”
Oasis singer Noel Gallagher is a big Man City fan
Amorim's subtle acknowledgment that attending an Oasis concert would be a bad impression on him was enough to prove that he shares the fans' disgust.
Additionally, the 39-year-old's comments also referred to the time he devotes to improving his team.
The former Sporting boss oversaw two wins in his four matches in charge, following a frustrating 1-1 draw against Ipswich with victory over Bodo/Glimt and a 4-0 defeat to Everton at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils' 2-0 defeat to Arsenal highlighted that there was still plenty of work to be done on the training ground, even though both goals conceded were from set pieces – where the Gunners are comfortably the best in Europe.
Ruben Amorim has won two of his four matches in charge of Man Utd
Amorim has not been shy about improving his side after taking over when his side were 12th in the table, although a win against Nottingham Forest today could take them up to sixth place.
“We are a big club but we are not a big team. We know that, so there is no problem in saying it,” he said. “We are not one of the best teams in the league. We have to say it and mean it clearly.
“But [in] our past, our club is perhaps the best in the league. So here we have a problem.
“We need to focus on the little details and then we will progress as a team.”
