Ruben Amorim's potential first transfer as Manchester United manager could inadvertently boost rival Manchester City's coffers. The Red Devils are reportedly considering Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap next year after his impressive Premier League debut.

The 21-year-old has been on fire for the Tractor Boys since his summer move from City in a deal that could reach £20million. The England U21 international spent time on loan at Stoke City and Preston before a notable spell at Hull City last season.

Delap continued his form with six goals in his first 13 Premier League games under Kieran McKenna, sparking rumors that a new milestone would be reached in 2025. The Mirror reported that City had a buy-back clause to re-recruit the striker, but they are also willing to do that. gain if he moves elsewhere due to a 20% resale clause in his contract.

This guarantees Pep Guardiola's side a share of any future transfer fee, no matter where he ends up. However, Delap's value has likely skyrocketed after proving his worth in the top flight this season.

The son of ex-Stoke star Rory Delap played a key role in Ipswich's opening Premier League win over Tottenham just before the last international break. He also scored twice in a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, as well as an equalizer against Fulham.

Amorim had first-hand experience of Delap's prowess on his dugout debut for United at Portman Road, where his side were held to a 1-1 draw. The Winchester-born talent almost scored with two shots on target despite just 17 touches against United, with only Marcus Rashford (13) taking fewer.

Interest in Delap has arisen just as Rasmus Hojlund begins to shine under Amorim. The Dane scored twice and provided an assist as United beat Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt 3-2 on Thursday, securing their second victory of the Europa League campaign.

Hojlund, also 21, aims to justify his £72million transfer fee by emulating the success enjoyed by Viktor Gyokeres under Amorim at Sporting CP. United also have attacking options in Rashford and summer signing Joshua Zirkzee, although neither have managed to maintain consistent form this season.

It seems unlikely that City will exercise their buyout clause to reunite with Delap given his striker position is covered. Erling Haaland continues to top the Premier League goalscoring charts with 12 goals so far this season and is rumored to be signing a lucrative new contract at the Etihad.

Having experienced top-level football under McKenna, Delap will not want to play a secondary role if he moves on next year. However, depending on his new value, United may have to indirectly give a substantial sum to their fierce rivals if they wish to secure the player.
