Real Madrid are reportedly willing to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, but only if they can secure him a free transfer.

The Liverpool star is set to become a free agent this summer and can begin pre-contract discussions with other clubs outside the Premier League from January, having yet to agree new terms with the Reds.

Alongside Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also at risk of leaving for free, with no updates on contract negotiations.

Having come through the ranks at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold established himself as one of the best full-backs in football, making 326 appearances for his boyhood club and winning the league and Champions League titles.

According to the Telegraph, Real Madrid are keen to bring the 26-year-old to the Bernabeu, seeing him as a potential successor to long-serving right-back Dani Carvajal, who is out for the season with an ACL injury.

Despite the possibility of a fee reduction due to his contract expiring, Madrid are reportedly willing to wait until the summer to see if he will be available for free.

In the midst of a triumphant season, Liverpool look set to keep Alexander-Arnold despite the player's hamstring problems. As they lead the table with aspirations of capturing glory for the first time since 2020, parting ways with Alexander-Arnold mid-season seems out of character.

An integral part of Arne Slot's tactics, the full-back played a central role in most matches, making 12 starts from 13 and registering two assists in all competitions.

Although recent injury struggles sidelined him from key wins against Southampton and Real Madrid, he valiantly returned to contribute to a 2-0 win over Manchester City.

Slot has been monitoring his playing time carefully, saying: “Last weekend against City we didn't think it was smart to play Trent for 90 minutes after his injury. It will probably be the same tomorrow and Saturday also.”

Slot's cautious approach aims to avoid any setbacks in the defender's rehabilitation progress, suggesting a gradual return to a full match regime.
