Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has shockingly admitted his own shortcomings following his side's devastating 2-1 home defeat to arch-rivals Manchester United. Despite taking the lead through a Josko Gvardiol header, City collapsed in the dying moments, conceding two late goals that sealed their fate.

A calamitous back pass from makeshift left-back Matheus Nunes led to a penalty, coolly scored by Bruno Fernandes, and Amad Diallo put the final nail in the coffin with a winner moments before full time.

With the defeat marking City's eighth defeat in 11 games, Guardiola openly admitted his struggle to stem the current crisis: “I'm the boss, I'm the manager, I have to find solutions but I can't find solutions.

“It's a big club and when you lose eight out of 11, something is wrong. You can say it's a busy schedule or player injuries, but no.”

His harsh self-assessment continued when he expressed his inability to adequately prepare and motivate his team: “I'm the manager and I'm not good enough, it's that simple. I need to find a way to talk to them, to train them I'm not good enough, I'm not doing well. That's the truth.

The frank admission comes despite Guardiola's recent commitment to the club, having signed a new two-year contract during this difficult period.

“I’m here,” he said. “I am responsible. It would be easy for me to say that we lost because of this action, this player or this situation, but football is a team.

“I am completely convinced in what I say, that I am not good enough to find a way for them to feel peace in their body and mind. I want it desperately. I am here to try and I will .try again and again but it's reality.”

After securing his second triumph against Guardiola in a matter of weeks, Ruben Amorim was brimming with satisfaction.

“I think we did a great job, we controlled very well,” commented the Red Devils coach after the match. “We didn't allow much, of course we didn't create much either but it was a split game. But we believed in it a lot.

“It was different from Arsenal, we controlled the Arsenal game in the first half but I didn't feel that conviction. Today I felt it and I think that was the point key to changing the match.

“I think for the fans it has deep meaning, especially in this context, at this time, but we had a difficult moment a week ago against Nottingham (Forest) at home, in the storm.

“After this game we are happier, three points, but we have to continue and not stop. Next week we play again and that will change the way we see the team. Today is a good day, let's enjoy it for 10 minutes and then I think about the next match.”
