Pep Guardiola has admitted that moving away from football would do him “good” despite recently signing a new contract with Manchester City. The six-time Premier League winning head coach has said he will not manage another club team when he leaves the reigning champions.

In November, Guardiola dispelled intense speculation about his future by signing a one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of the season.

But the Spaniard insists he would actually rather quit football to get away and play golf. When he finally leaves City, Guardiola says to learn French, know how to cook and spend more time playing golf. If he says he does not have the energy to start a new project with another club, he does not rule out managing a national team.

Speaking to Spanish boss Dani Garcia on YouTube channel Desmontadito, Guardiola said: “I want to leave him and go play golf but I can't.

“A time will come when I feel like enough is enough and I will definitely stop at that point.” I'm not going to lead another team. I'm not talking about the long-term future, but what I'm not going to do is leave Manchester City and go to another country to do the same thing as now.

“I wouldn’t have the energy to do it. I'm still here, doing what I'm doing today. But the idea of starting somewhere else, with the whole training process and so on… no, no, no! Maybe a national team but it's different.

“I should stop, like these leaders who go to other countries, stop and see what we have done well and what we could do better and when you are busy all day, every day you don't I don't have time to do that. I think stopping would do me some good.

He added: “I'm still young and when I stop, there are several things I want to do. One of them is to learn French, dedicate my free time to myself so that I can play golf and then start learning to cook simple things.

Guardiola's City have had a difficult start to the season and currently do not appear to be in a position to challenge for the Premier League title. Saturday's 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace saw them drop points again and they fell to fourth place in the top flight. League leaders Liverpool are eight points ahead of City and have played a game less.

City recently ended a remarkable seven-match winless streak by beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 last week. They face a crucial derby against Manchester United next Sunday and travel to Juventus in the Champions League tomorrow (Wednesday).
