Manchester City's Oscar Bobb during the 2024 FA Community Shield
Manchester City winger Oscar Bobb faces a spell on the sidelines after fracturing his leg in training.
Manchester City are considering flying the 21-year-old Norway international to Barcelona to be examined by renowned specialist Dr Ramon Cugat, but the initial hope at the Etihad is that the injury is not as serious as first feared.
Bobb was outstanding in City's Community Shield penalty shootout win over Manchester United on Saturday, setting up Bernardo Silva's last-minute equaliser with a flash of mesmerising skill.
City have granted Julian Alvarez's wish to join Atletico Madrid in a deal that will earn the club £82million as Guardiola believes Bobb can have a big influence on his team.
Bobb joined City from Norwegian club Lyn in 2019 and came through the academy ranks before making his Premier League debut against Fulham in February 2023. He signed a new five-year contract in February.
Manchester City could be forced to hit the transfer market for reinforcements as they kick off the new season with a trip to Chelsea on Sunday.
The injury comes days after Guardiola praised Bobb following his performance at Wembley. Asked if he and academy graduate James McAtee were at the level needed to make an impact this season, he replied: “They're at the same level as us.”
Regarding Bobb in particular, he added: “We want more. Sometimes he had the chance to take the ball and go and he was a little passive.
“He has something unique, he can stop and go, take one or two first steps, right or left, it’s incredible. The goal, the way he turns and crosses, it’s a huge quality. He has incredible values and work ethic. He has the ability to do it and he can do it more regularly.”
