Mason Mount has sent an emotional message to Manchester United fans after suffering his latest injury last weekend. The 25-year-old midfielder lasted just 12 minutes in the Manchester derby, putting a damper on United's dramatic 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Unsurprisingly, he was absent from the squad that traveled to London for Thursday's Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat at Tottenham.

And after full-time, Amorim confirmed that Mount was “very sad” and that the injured number 7 was expected to spend “several weeks” on the sidelines.

“I don't know the exact date, but it's going to be for a long time. And that's it, it's part of football, and you move on,” explained the United head coach.

“What I can do is help Mase and teach him how to play our game when he recovers. Try to use this time for him to think about different things.

“I think the worst thing is that we don't have time to train like we should when you're recovering from a lot of injuries.

“With Mason Mount, we will help him. It's really difficult for a player to be out for so long and he tries very hard, same for me. If they try really hard, we will help them until the end. “.

On Friday night, Mount broke his silence on the unfortunate situation, admitting how distraught he was after leaving the competition for another long period.

“Words can't describe how devastated I feel right now, you could probably see the look on my face when this happened. I knew what this meant,” Mount wrote on Instagram.

“United fans, you may not know me very well yet, but one thing I can guarantee you is that I will never give up and I will never lose confidence.

“I've said it before, but I will continue to give everything, get through this difficult time and I won't stop until this is accomplished.”

Mount's career at Old Trafford is yet to take off after his £55million arrival from Chelsea last summer.

The England international has only played 32 times since the start of last season, starting just 14 times.

He has recorded just one goal and one assist while on the pitch, which only intensifies the skepticism over United's decision to lure him from Chelsea.

The injuries were detrimental. The 4-3 defeat at Tottenham was the 30th game Mount missed as a United player, just two short of his appearance total.

Uncertainty is growing over whether the former Blues playmaker has a future in Amorim's rebuild, given the ruthless nature of the Ineos regime.
