Manchester City star Julian Alvarez set to join Atletico Madrid
Manchester City have agreed to sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for a club-record fee, which could reach £81million.
The Premier League champions have been in talks with their Spanish counterparts this week and after negotiations progressed over the last 24 hours, the two sides are understood to have reached an agreement for the 24-year-old.
Atletico will pay £64m up front (€75m) with a potential £17m extra (€20m), making it a record sale for City.
Personal terms have yet to be agreed, although that is unlikely to be a problem after it emerged Alvarez had informed the club he was prepared to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.
That represents a huge profit on the £14million City paid to sign Alvarez from River Plate in January 2022. He initially joined the Primera Division side on loan before joining City later in the summer and made an immediate impression.
The Argentina international scored 36 goals in 103 appearances and was part of the team that won the treble in the historic 2022-23 season. But now it looks like Alvarez will make history for a completely different reason.
