Liverpool striker Luis Diaz has reportedly agreed to join Manchester City, according to reports in Spain. However, sources in the UK are playing down rumours that a deal is in the works between the two clubs.

The forward has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain among his suitors. However, the European giants may not be the only ones interested in the winger.

Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV claim City have opened talks with Diaz over a potential deal and the Colombia international has already agreed to sign a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola's side are looking for attacking reinforcements following the sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, and Diaz has reportedly been shortlisted as a potential option.

City are understood to be willing to pay £59.8million to acquire the services of the former FC Porto star, although reports in the UK suggest no offer has yet been made.

Should the 27-year-old leave Anfield, Liverpool could attempt to reopen negotiations with Newcastle over a deal for Anthony Gordon.

Diaz is capable of playing on either wing but has thrived on the left flank on Merseyside, which could allow Phil Foden to be used more regularly as a number 10 – a role the England international believes he is best suited to.

A potential deal for Diaz, however, is unlikely to stop City from seeking a top-class striker in the final fortnight of the transfer window, with Guardiola hoping to acquire the services of an alternative option to Erling Haaland in the final third to allow for squad rotation.

City are expected to be busy in the final weeks of the transfer window, with several stars expected to leave to raise funds and also ensure Guardiola has a suitable sized squad to work with.

Midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who has fallen out of favour, has already been linked with a number of clubs this month, with Everton, Fulham and Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town reportedly keen to sign him. Joao Cancelo's future also remains uncertain despite Barcelona's desire to re-sign him after his successful loan spell last season.
