Real Madrid reportedly looking to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold on free transfer
Real Madrid have reportedly informed Liverpool of their desire to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer ahead of next season.
The Reds defender is reaching the end of his contract, which expires at the end of the campaign. If he doesn't sign a new deal before January, there will be nothing stopping him from agreeing to a future move to the Bernabeu.
Players in the final year of their existing contract will be able to sign pre-contract agreements with non-English clubs at the end of the year.
Real Madrid are reportedly exploring this route, with the Spanish giants having already contacted Liverpool to inform them of their plans, according to talkSPORT.
The reigning European champions are not obliged to declare their interest, but are said to want to be respectful to Liverpool by keeping them in the loop.
Alexander-Arnold has made no secret of his desire to win more trophies, which could make Real Madrid the ideal destination for him. However, Liverpool still have time to convince him that their long-term interests would be better served at Anfield.
They hope that he will eventually decide to entrust his future to them by signing a new and improved contract.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has claimed he is not worried about Alexander-Arnold turning his head, saying last month: “These players are used to being linked with all the big clubs on a daily basis, whether whether they have contracts or not.
“If you think they're disturbed by those interests, then I think you're not doing justice to their mental toughness and what they're used to. That's part of our job.
“I was at Feyenoord last year and they linked me with many clubs and before that and before that. It's part of this world we live in. You just focus on what you have to do.
“Maybe if you are 17 or 18 it might be difficult for you, but Trent won the championship, won the Champions League.”
