Trent Alexander-Arnold is in the final months of his Liverpool contract
Liverpool have until the start of January to agree a new contract with Trent Alexander-Arnold or Real Madrid will present theirs, according to reports.
The Reds right-back is one of three big stars who could leave Anfield for free at the end of the season. Progress is being made behind the scenes to tie Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konate to new terms, but fans are still awaiting a breakthrough on the futures of Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Los Blancos are said to have serious interest in Alexander-Arnold, who has shown flashes of discontent since Arne Slot arrived on Merseyside to replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.
Normally a mainstay in the lineup, the 26-year-old has been substituted before full-time in four of Liverpool's seven matches so far this season. Alexander-Arnold is a one-club man, having joined Liverpool's academy as a schoolboy in 2004.
Now entering the prime years of his career, he will be free to discuss a pre-contract deal with foreign clubs between now and the start of January, unless he first signs a new deal with Liverpool.
And according to Marca, Real Madrid will not give the Reds any breathing space as they plan to put an offer on the table as soon as possible.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jude Bellingham forged a strong friendship while serving in England
Real are reportedly discussing Alexander-Arnold and Alponso Davies as full-back options ahead of next summer's transfer window, although there is 'more talk' about the former among senior officials at the club. Bernabeu.
Alexander-Arnold has made over 300 appearances for Liverpool since breaking into the first team as a teenager, revolutionizing the right-back role with his whipped balls into the box and numerous assists. He also has 31 caps for England and has joined caretaker boss Lee Carsley for upcoming matches against Greece and Finland.
The international break gave Alexander-Arnold the opportunity to reunite with close friend Jude Bellingham, whose career has reached another level since leaving Borussia Dortmund to sign for Real Madrid last summer.
Liverpool fans will hope that Bellingham will not be too convincing and that Anfield bosses will step up their efforts to move forward with contract talks. One thing working in the Reds' favor is the fact that they sit top of the table, with six wins from seven Premier League matches, marking an exceptional start under new manager Slot.
