Liverpool duo Ibrahima Konate and Alexis Mac Allister face facing one-match suspensions when the Reds host Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday. Both men have already received four yellow cards this season and will miss next Wednesday's trip to Newcastle if they are booked for a fifth time.

Liverpool have been in scintillating form this season and opened up an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table,

Arne Slot's side have won 10 of their 12 top-flight matches this season, with the only defeat of the campaign coming in their home clash with Nottingham Forest in mid-September.

Konate fought back tears on the pitch after Liverpool's 2-0 Champions League win over Real Madrid on Wednesday night as he received medical treatment from staff, before limping off the pitch.

And he is in doubt over his fitness for Sunday's encounter, with Liverpool boss Slot providing an update on Konate and Reds right-back Conor Bradley during his pre-match press conference on Thursday .

“They are still being evaluated, so it is difficult to see how they are doing,” explained the Dutchman. “Let's wait and see, but it's never a good sign. Conor, we had to take him off, and Ibou didn't come off the pitch like he should after the fantastic game he played. This is not a good sign.

“Konate and Bradley are still being evaluated – [it’s still] so close to last night – and I've just come off the training ground so we'll have to wait and see.

Konate has formed a strong partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool's defense this season, with the France international starting all but one of his side's Premier League and Champions League matches.

Mac Allister, meanwhile, started all but two matches in those competitions and scored the first goal of the night against Real by lobbing the ball beyond the reach of Thibaut Courtois.

City will arrive at Anfield on the back of three consecutive Premier League defeats, with the Citizens suffering a humiliating 4-0 reverse to Tottenham last weekend after losing to Brighton and Bournemouth.

And Manchester United icon Gary Neville believes the Merseyside giants are ready to take all three points against Pep Guardiola's side.

“I think Liverpool will win,” he said before the clash. “Looking at City at the moment, when you feel that intensity and passion that Liverpool have, I think they could run at them, that’s my intuition.”
