Lionel Messi had fun with his Christmas presents
Lionel Messi marked one of his many milestones with a humorous Christmas gift to several of his former adversaries. The 37-year-old has delivered glorious football over the past two decades, providing countless unforgettable moments.
Most of them were for Barcelona before his emotional departure in 2021. Just months before his move to PSG, Messi celebrated another milestone by scoring his 644th goal for the Catalan club.
This was important because it broke Pelé's Santos record for the player with the most goals for a single club. To commemorate this feat, Messi and one of his sponsors, Budweiser, came up with a fun plan.
They decided to send a bottle of beer to every goalkeeper he scored against for every goal. This represented 160 goalkeepers, including 13 Premier League stars of the time.
Manchester United's David de Gea, Tottenham goalkeepers Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart and Liverpool's Alisson all received a few each. The star with the biggest Christmas alcoholic drink was Diego Alves.
The former Almeria and Valencia goalkeeper received the most goals with 21. He was followed by Gorka Iraizoz with 18, Iker Casillas and Andres Fernandez with 17 and Diego López with 14.
.@budfootball…thanks for the beers. I'll take that as a compliment. We have great battles over the years! Congratulations on breaking the record of 644 #Messi! It’s truly an incredible achievement. Cheers! #BeAKing #announcement pic.twitter.com/Rvz2kSv23B

The beers arrived just in time for Christmas, with Gianluigi Buffon and Jan Oblak expressing their gratitude to Messi on social media on Christmas Eve. Buffon wrote: “Thanks for the beers. I take that as a compliment. We have some great battles over the years! Congratulations on breaking the record of 644 #Messi! It's truly an incredible feat. Well done!”
Oblak, meanwhile, posted: “Congratulations on your superb record of 644 goals, Leo. I never like to concede but the challenge of stopping you also brings out the best in goalkeepers. Thank you for this special gift. “
Messi continues to break records, with his career goals now astonishingly reaching 850 for club and country. His list of goalkeeper victims has only grown since his move to France and the start of a new chapter in the United States with Inter Miami.
