Graeme Souness has launched another rant against Man Utd.
Graeme Souness was left red-faced following his latest speech on the situation at Manchester United, this time lambasting the club's recruitment. The former Sky Sports pundit never took action when criticizing United, their owners, their players or their coaching staff.
And he is now speaking out about the uncertainty surrounding Erik ten Hag's future, saying the Dutchman's poor recruitment has not helped his cause.
Souness believes United's hierarchy have “already made up their minds” about Ten Hag after Tuesday's executive meeting in London.
The 71-year-old singled out the players who arrived at Old Trafford this summer, describing them as disappointing.
“I look at the players they signed this summer, they brought in Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee and Noussair Mazraoui,” Souness explained on the Three Up Front podcast.
“But United are not a mid-tier club. Would a team like Real Madrid sign these players?
“I don’t think they are ambitious enough because they are not recruiting the types of players who will make a difference.
“Ultimately that's what nails Ten Hag. He recruits players he's worked with before, so they wouldn't have been suggested by anyone else.
Leny Yoro is on the road to recovery.
“He has signed players he knows and would have wanted, but they are still not performing. United pay a lot for players, but they have been recruiting poorly for years.”
Souness questioned whether Real Madrid would even consider making a move for any of the players signed by United this summer.
But the Liverpool icon appears to have forgotten about Leny Yoro, who United beat the European champions to sign in a £59million deal in July.
Real were not willing to increase their price for the 18-year-old centre-back, prompting Lille to sanction his move to Manchester.
You could forgive Souness, given Yoro is yet to play for his new club due to a foot injury he suffered during pre-season.
But the teenager, considered one of Europe's most promising defensive talents, is making great strides on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery in August.
Late last month, Ten Hag confirmed that he hoped Yoro would return to contention in the near future.
“He is in the right place and he will be back as soon as possible in the team and then in team training,” the United manager explained.
The Red Devils' first summer transfer window under the INEOS banner was praised before the season. There will be optimism within the club that the young signings will prove to be successes in the years to come.
