Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk's contracts with Liverpool expire next summer
Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah is among 82 Premier League footballers whose contracts expire next summer. The Bosman rule allows these players to join another club on a free transfer once their contract ends on June 30, 2025.
From Wednesday January 1, these 82 players will be authorized to negotiate with foreign clubs. According to the rules, they can sign a pre-contract agreement to secure their future before the end of the season.
However, this six-month rule only applies to foreign clubs, as Premier League clubs cannot approach other top players until they are in the final month of their contract. This is a growing concern for Liverpool, not only with Salah, but also with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
All three Anfield players are approaching the final six months of their respective contracts, sparking speculation over their futures on Merseyside and in Europe. Likewise, Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City, like Ilkay Gundogan, must decide on his future following the recent crisis of the quadruple champions.
Manchester United have six players whose contracts are due to expire, including star Amad, Harry Maguire, Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton.
Arsenal are considering the future of midfielder pair Thomas Partey and Jorginho, both key players during Mikel Arteta's reign. Meanwhile, Tottenham captain Son Heung-min could potentially leave for free unless Spurs choose to sell in the January transfer window.
Chelsea appear to be the least affected by contract issues, with only backup goalkeeper Lucas Bergstrom nearing the end of his contract. Conversely, Everton and Newcastle top the list with eight senior players each out of contract in June.
Nottingham Forest's Chris Wood, who took the team to second place in the table with 11 goals, may have attracted interest from foreign clubs, and Ola Aina is also in the final months of his contract.
The Premier League could also bid farewell to veteran James Milner, who, at almost 39, needs to play 17 more league matches for Brighton to surpass Gareth Barry's appearance record of 653.
