Manchester City striker Erling Haaland was seen writhing in pain during training on Monday, sparking fresh injury concerns from manager Pep Guardiola.

City's top scorer was taking part in a routine exercise when he shouted “ah f***”, fell and grabbed his right ankle. Haaland appeared to be seriously uncomfortable and pulled up the leg of his tracksuit bottoms to assess any potential damage.

It was only when Phil Foden came to see the Norwegian that City's fears began to ease, with Haaland slowly coming up, bending down and taking deep breaths.

It remains to be seen whether lasting damage has been done. Promisingly for the Blues, Haaland continued to take part in the training exercise shortly after collapsing on the turf.

City have already been dealing with a major injury scare involving Haaland in recent days. The 24-year-old did not appear to move freely for some time during Saturday's trip to Bournemouth, although he recovered to watch the devastating 2-1 defeat.

Guardiola will need his offensive dynamo if City are to challenge on multiple fronts. Haaland is the only striker in the Blues squad and he has scored more than half of their Premier League goals this season.

The defeat against the Cherries made it a second in a row for City, who were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham last week. Liverpool have opened up a two-point gap at the top of the table and Arsenal should be strong despite their difficult start.

City's next task is to beat Sporting in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Manager Ruben Amorim will be eager to get the upper hand on the team that will become local rivals once he takes the reins at Manchester United.

Recent injuries have hit City where it hurts. Oscar Bobb is a long-term absentee and new Ballon d'Or winner Rodri, who was so instrumental under Guardiola last season, has been sidelined from the campaign with a neck injury. anterior cruciate ligament.

Ruben Dias and Jack Grealish – worth a combined £165million – have both been ruled out until after the international break. And John Stones is also doubtful for the Sporting game due to a foot problem which kept him out this weekend.
