A.Real Madrid needed two extra-time goals from Endrick to beat Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey round of 16 and avoid another embarrassing setback less than a week after losing 5-2 to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. the Spanish Super Cup.

Federico Valverde also scored in extra time on Thursday as Madrid reached the quarter-finals with a 5-2 victory after losing a 2-0 lead in a 2-2 draw in regulation time at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Madrid were looking for a comfortable victory to bounce back from the rout against Barcelona. Carlo Ancelotti's side are trying to keep pace with Atletico Madrid at the top of the Spanish league and improve their standings in the Champions League championship stage.

It was the first of a three-match home series for Madrid, which hosts Las Palmas in the Spanish league on Sunday and faces Salzburg in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Mbappé gave Madrid the lead in the 37th minute after collecting the ball before the halfway line and making a run into the Celta box to finish with a left-footed cross shot. It was Mbappé's second goal in his last five matches for Madrid. Vinícius scored his first goal in five matches after a breakaway in the 48th minute.

Celta came close after Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga lost possession near the box and allowed Bamba to score in the 83rd, and the Vigo side leveled the match early in injury time with a penalty converted by Alonso after a foul by Bamba inside the area.

The reigning champion ousted

Holders Athletic Bilbao recovered from a two-goal first-half deficit but still lost 3-2 to Osasuna at home.

The visitors took the lead with goals from Aimar Oroz in the 40th and Ante Budimir in the 44th before Athletic tied the game with Nico Williams in first-half stoppage time and Óscar from Marcos in the 55th.

Budimir scored the winner in the 70th to help Osasuna advance two years after eliminating Athletic in the semi-finals.

Also on Thursday, Real Sociedad qualified by beating Rayo Vallecano 3-1 at home.

On Wednesday, Barcelona beat Real Betis 5-1. Atletico Madrid beat second division side Elche 4-0, while Getafe won 1-0 against fourth division side Pontevedra and Leganes won 3-2 against second division side D 'Almeria.
