David Beckham (front row centre) spoke about one of his former Manchester United teammates
David Beckham has revealed his ultimate five-a-side team and the star-studded line-up includes just one of his former Manchester United teammates. The England legend has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world, which has forced him to overlook many of United's icons.
As Sir Alex Ferguson's side dominated the early years of the Premier League, Beckham became a key player for United and helped the club achieve their historic treble before joining Real Madrid in 2003. A perfect signing for Los Blancos during the Galacticos era, Real Madrid made it their mission to bring together the most exciting players in the world. Beckham would later continue to display his qualities at AC Milan and PSG.
It gave the 49-year-old an embarrassment of riches when he was asked to name his dream five-a-side team on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast. Tough squad selection saw Beckham pick Roy Keane as the only United legend in his line-up, snubbing a long list of club heroes.
“Okay, I would have to say Roberto Carlos because he can play defense and attack,” Beckham told Ferdinand. “He played more offense than defense, to be honest. And then I have to say [Paolo] Maldini.
“And then I would say Zizou [Zinedine Zidane]. He's one of, not just one of the greatest players I've ever played with, one of the toughest coaches, and also just cool. He's just cool, you know, without trying.” He continued: “You play him a ball anywhere on the pitch, any height, any level, any speed, he made it go down like it was just one of those things he does.
“The next one will have to be one of the greatest and most natural scorers I have ever seen, Ronaldo (Nazario).” The former England captain has reserved his final pick for his former United skipper Roy Keane.
“Oh my God, my last one. I'm going to say Keaney,” Beckham said. “You know, you need a leader and you need someone who is going to actually attack and fight and be the player that he is, so I'm going to have to say Keaney.

“You know what, he didn't take a single day off, and I'm not talking about a physical day off. I mean, every day he walked on that practice field, he wanted to win. What whether in the ball-keeping game or the heading game, he inspired us every day because he came with that mentality and we all knew that was what we had to face.
“That’s the level we need to get to and that’s why Keaney was who he was because he was a winner, he was hungry and he always wanted to win.”
Despite not naming a goalkeeper – which would likely have been a draw between Peter Schmeichel and Iker Casillas – Beckham's team boasts some of the best players of their era. However, several of his United colleagues were unlucky to miss the opportunity.
Beckham has shared more games with Gary Neville than any other player, creating a formidable partnership on the right flank. He has also featured on several occasions alongside club legends Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, while Jaap Stam and Eric Cantona have also been overlooked.
