Katia Alveiro, Cristiano Ronaldo's sister, responded to a report regarding her brother
Cristiano Ronaldo's sister Katia Aveiro has shut down rumors that her brother could soon leave Al-Nassr. Ronaldo, 39, joined the Saudi side in December 2022 after parting ways with Manchester United.
His move to the Saudi Pro League sparked a trend of high-profile players moving to the Middle East, including Brazilian superstar Neymar, who transferred to Al-Hilal from PSG last year for the sum staggering £86 million and now earning a mouth-watering £2.50. m per week. Although Ronaldo proved his worth as Al-Nassr's star player, scoring 74 goals in 85 matches, Neymar's impact at Al-Hilal was less impressive.
The 32-year-old made just seven appearances as he spent most of last season on the sidelines with a torn ACL. Back on the bench with a hamstring injury following his return last month, it has been suggested that Neymar could join his first club, Santos, in January. Brazilian publication Esportes reported that Al-Hilal would consider replacing Neymar with Ronaldo, but Aveiro called the claims “nonsense”.
The Esportes report stated: “With an open future, Neymar can be replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Hilal.” However, Aveiro responded to the journalist on Instagram, aiming to put an end to the rumor.
“Are you just writing nonsense? Obviously you don't know anything about football,” Aveiro said. “You could have called me and I could tell you about the club rivalry there and what that possibility would be, zero. Take it away, my friend, there's still time.”
The historic rivalry between the two Riyadh-based top clubs began with their inaugural clash in 1964 and, according to Transfermarkt, to date only eight transfers have taken place between them. The chances of Al Nassr choosing to cash in on Ronaldo are incredibly slim and the striker has committed to the club until 2025.
Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Al Nassr in December 2022
A recent article from Brazilian media outlet UOL claimed that Neymar had informed Al-Hilal of his “greatest desire” to return to the country, citing Santos as the most likely destination. Although the striker missed most of last season, Al-Hilal are the reigning Saudi champions.
Ronaldo played seven Riyadh derbies without a single victory against Al-Hilal, scoring just one goal. Al-Nassr's most notable defeat against their city rivals came on penalties to decide the King's Cup final last season.
Portugal captain Ronaldo was denied his second silverware with Al Nassr after triumphing in the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup. Yet for now, Ronaldo will focus his attention on Portugal's upcoming matches in Nations League against Poland and Croatia.
