Cristiano Ronaldo refused to vote at the Ballon d'Or ceremony and declined his invitation

Cristiano Ronaldo has been a ubiquitous presence at Ballon d'Or ceremonies in the past, but the Portuguese ace was nowhere to be seen at Monday's event.

As a former Ballon d'Or winner, Ronaldo reserves the right to attend all future ceremonies, whether or not he is in the running for the main prize.

But, just like his old enemy Lionel Messi, Ronaldo snubbed his invitation and would not have voted for the winner of the Kopa Trophy either.

Speaking to The Times, Ballon d'Or head Vincent Garcia said: “The winners have the right to come back to all future ceremonies but they don't all come, some are very angry with us.

“I don't know for sure that Cristiano is, I don't speak to him directly, but I know for example that past winners vote for the Kopa Trophy – for the best young player – and Cristiano didn't vote for it. last year and he didn't vote this year either.”

Unsurprisingly, talented teenager Lamine Yamal won the Kopa Trophy after a stellar season for the Barcelona starlet.

Yamal followed in the footsteps of fellow La Masia graduates Gavi and Pedri as winner of the Kopa Trophy, with Matthijs de Ligt, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham also previous winners.

But Ronaldo's no-show came amid a night of drama in Paris, in which no Real Madrid delegates showed up for the event.

The likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Jude Bellingham and Mbappe all refused to attend the spectacle, with reports claiming they were not there because Vinicius Junior missed the Ballon d'Or.
