Benjamin Mendy released statement after filing complaint against Manchester City
Benjamin Mendy has issued a statement after Manchester City were ordered to pay the defender the majority of the £11million he was seeking against them for unpaid wages at an employment tribunal.
The 30-year-old filed a complaint against his former employers after they suspended him without pay from September 2021 until he leaves the club in June 2023.
Early last year, Mendy was cleared of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault at parties at his Cheshire mansion. He was later cleared in July 2023 of raping one woman and attempting to rape another.
“Today the Employment Tribunal upheld the substance of my claim against Manchester City Football Club for unpaid wages, finding that the club had unlawfully made deductions from my wages for a total period of 16 months and 23 days,” Mendy wrote on Wednesday.
“Having had to wait 3 years for my salary, I am delighted with the decision and sincerely hope that the club will now do the honorable thing and pay the monies owed, as well as other monies promised to me as part of the contract, without further delay, so that I can finally put this difficult part of my life behind me.
“I would like to thank my family, my agent (Meissa N’diaye) and my legal team (Nick De Marco KC, Laffer Abogados and Fletcher Sports Law) for all their support.”

Mendy joined City from Monaco in July 2017 after the Citizens paid £52 million to secure the Frenchman's services.
The start of his City career was hampered by a series of serious injuries as the Citizens won back-to-back Premier League titles in 2018 and 2019. He helped Pep Guardiola's side to another title in 2021, but only took part in the opening of the Premier League. match of the 2021/22 campaign before being suspended as City clinch another top-flight trophy.
This proved to be Mendy's final game for the north-west giants as he was allowed to join Lorient after his contract expired. He made a total of 75 appearances for the team.
