Jurrien Timber and his Arsenal team-mates were disappointed to fail to hold on for the win
Jurrien Timber has admitted Arsenal are devastated after a potential win at the Etihad was snatched from them.
However, Timber has issued a stern warning to fierce rivals Manchester City, stating that Mikel Arteta's side will stop at nothing to surpass them in this season's title race.
Arteta was on the verge of securing his first win at City until John Stones managed to snatch a 2-2 draw for the reigning champions in the 98th minute.
This was despite Arsenal being reduced to 10 men before half-time following the sending off of Leandro Trossard.
Timber admitted the result left Arsenal feeling depressed, but believes the nature of their performance provides a solid foundation for them to achieve great things this season.
The Dutch international said: “It felt like we played two hours of defense! It was tough, but it would have been worth it if we had won. Even with this draw, we can be proud of ourselves.”
“We are disappointed, but also proud of the team because we gave everything we could. I think there was a moment when they scored, which is really sad for us, but I think we can look back on a good game.
“We feel like we can win this game. That moment with the referee in the first half changed the whole game, but sometimes these are things you don't have in your control. What we had in our control, we gave it our all.
“In the second half we did everything we could, we gave everything, and it wasn't enough. I hope it will be the same next time. We want to win. We just have to keep going and improve.”
“I think we put in a huge performance at City. No win, no luck, but I think we can definitely build on that.”
