Micah Richards suffered a wardrobe malfunction moments before appearing on Match of the Day this weekend, but didn't have time to correct the problem before the show began. The former Manchester City defender was at MediaCityUK's Dock10 studios in Salford to give his expert analysis on Saturday's Premier League fixtures.

Just before the cameras started rolling, another expert, Alan Shearer, told Richards he had a hole in his top.

And the 36-year-old was forced to stand still throughout the show to ensure viewers couldn't peek under his clothes.

“I left [into the changing room]I put my spray on, ironed my gear, I looked fantastic if I do say so myself,” Richards said on the Rest is Football podcast when explaining the story.

“As soon as we get to the studio, I see Alan smiling and I'm like, 'What is he smiling now?' And he says I have a hole in my top.

“Obviously, I think he’s pulling my leg. I pull it and I have a huge [hole]. I couldn't move forward on Match of the Day. I was so embarrassed – it was horrible.

Richards appears alongside his fellow Match of the Day regulars on the podcast. And Lineker replied: “Normally you do a lot of manners with your arms.

“You had a big split under the armpit of your shirt. That's what happens when you have guns like that, Micah.”

Shearer then joked: “Hulk exploded before he went on air.” » And Richards added: “I was sweating during the whole show. »

During his appearance on Match of the Day, Richards gave his thoughts on Manchester City's shock 2-1 defeat to Brighton.

Pep Guardiola's side finished five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday, with Matt O'Riley scoring a late winner for the Seagulls after Joao Pedro canceled out Erling Haaland's early goal for visitors.

And Richards said: “I think it (the international break) comes at the right time. [for City]. I think he (Guardiola) is right to mention the injuries of [Jack] Grealish, [John] Stones, Rodri, [Ruben] Dias and [Jeremy] Doku, [Oscar] Bobb who was also injured at the start of the season.

“I think from Al's analysis, the biggest thing for me is that they're not pushing anymore and when they're pushing, they're going at it as individuals. When you lose the best midfielder in Europe, it's always going to put a strain on your team. But they're just too easy to play right now.
