Cristiano Ronaldo bought a Greek island for his agent in 2015.
There's nothing Cristiano Ronaldo loves more than scoring goals. However, it was thanks to his all-time accomplishments on the field that he was able to take up one of his favorite hobbies.
Unlike many professional footballers, it is not the golf course that keeps the 39-year-old busy when he is away from the training ground and his family, but a much more expensive hobby.
Instead, it's about buying glamorous islands and luxury mansions that 'CR7' adores, which is perhaps understandable when you consider his reported net worth of £613million.
Not just for himself either. In the summer of 2015, the Manchester United and Real Madrid icon reportedly gave his agent Jordan Mendes a Greek island as a wedding present. Ronaldo was best man at the ceremony in Portugal, so duly obliged with a gift worth around £2.5million.
And it is not for nothing that his own homeland is now nicknamed “Ronaldo’s Island”. Ronaldo owns a huge plot of land in Madeira, not to mention the seven-story house where he spent lockdown with his partner Georgina Rodriguez and the couple's children.
The £7million mansion isn't his only property either. Ronaldo also owns his own airport and the CR7 hotel, both of which boost tourism on the island. It also has its own museum, made up of souvenirs donated by the Al-Nassr attacker himself.
Ronaldo and his partner Georgina have many properties that they can enjoy.
And this summer it emerged that Ronaldo's expensive hobby had spread to the United Arab Emirates. Reports emerged that Ronaldo and Georgina had purchased land on a seahorse-shaped Jumeirah island, just off the coast of Dubai.
Football's top international scorer is believed to have capitalized on his £21million purchase by submitting plans for another mansion. With it reportedly being completed by Christmas, the house will add to his impressive property portfolio.
Ronaldo already owns homes in cities like Madrid, Marbella, New York, Lisbon and Turin. Overall, his properties are collectively worth around £80 million, which is effectively the same amount that Real paid United for his services in 2009.

Of course, his current contract in Saudi Arabia means money will probably never be an object for the son of Portugal's favorite footballer. He is paid £62 million a year by Al-Nassr, with this figure significantly increased by image rights and commercial deals.
With his contract set to expire in June 2025, an expected extension will likely net him an equally enticing sum of money. And while few would dare predict how many professional goals he will achieve after accumulating 907 so far, how many islands he will eventually own is also anyone's guess.
