The England midfielder failed to add the Euro to the two titles he won with Real Madrid
Jude Bellingham showed his class by spending time with Dani Carvajal's young children after England's Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain. It's certainly not the first time the 21-year-old has shown his compassionate side after a match, as he showed it in full force last month.
Following Real Madrid's 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final in June, Bellingham was seen hugging several of his team-mates' children in an emotional moment captured on camera, while the former Birmingham player was also seen celebrating Real's victory by dancing and high-fiving them.
But it was a completely different emotion that overcame him on Sunday (14 July) when he found himself on the losing side of the European Championship final. Despite this, the England midfielder showed maturity by congratulating his Real Madrid team-mate and greeting his two young sons on the bench.
Gareth Southgate comforted Bellingham after the final whistle
After congratulating fellow Madrid player Nacho Fernandez and former team-mate Joselu, Bellingham briefly chatted with the Carjaval children before joining his international team-mates in the tunnel. Although it was a disappointing night for the Three Lions, Bellingham managed to put rivalry aside and show humility for his age.
The defeat in Berlin marked Gareth Southgate's final game as Three Lions manager, with the former Middlesbrough boss confirming his decision to step down in a statement on Tuesday morning, the Mirror reports. Bellingham spoke of Southgate's influence, expressing deep admiration and affection for the outgoing England manager.
“He's someone who, I think, over the last couple of years as well, our relationship has gone a little bit beyond football, where I feel like I can open up to him a lot and I think that says a lot about the kind of man he is as well,” the midfielder said.
He continued to praise Southgate, adding: “Whatever happens to Gareth, I will always respect him. If he stays, I will be even more determined to win something for him because he deserves it.”
Bellingham also highlighted Southgate's record during his eight-year reign: “Sometimes the numbers and the statistics, the records don't lie, he's been our most successful manager since 1966. So whatever his decision, he'll always have my respect and my love.”
