Kylian Mbappe suffered a thigh injury during Real Madrid's La Liga win over Alaves on Tuesday night.
Mbappe, who scored in a fifth straight game to give his side a 2-0 lead five minutes before halftime at the Bernabeu, was replaced by Arda Guler in the 79th minute after feeling apparent discomfort.
“Following the examinations carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappé by the Real Madrid medical team, he has been diagnosed with an injury to his left thigh,” the club said in a statement on Wednesday.
No further information has been released regarding Mbappe's expected recovery timeframe, but reports suggest the France captain will be out for three weeks.
Mbappe, who signed a five-year contract with the Madrid club in July after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired, has made an impressive start to life in Spain.
The 25-year-old has scored seven goals in nine appearances in all competitions, including six in seven league games.
Real Madrid will travel to Atletico for the Madrid derby on Sunday night.
