Manchester City have reportedly announced their price tag for Julian Alvarez, who is reportedly keen to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer. Alvarez, who is currently representing Argentina at the Olympics, is reportedly keen on a new challenge after becoming disappointed with his playing time.

The 24-year-old made 36 league appearances last season but was used in a number of positions rather than as City's first choice in his preferred striker role. He remains tied down until the summer of 2028 but is understood to be looking for an exit ahead of the new campaign.

Alvarez is reportedly keen to leave City after becoming frustrated with his recent playing time, according to The Athletic. He is also said to be keen on a move to a warmer climate, a view shared by family members who followed him to England.

However, the report adds that Alvarez could be priced out of a transfer, with City demanding a transfer fee of around £60m. The reigning Premier League champions will also be looking for around £17m in bonuses, making a deal extremely expensive for any interested party.

Atletico Madrid are said to be keen admirers of Alvarez, who joined City from River Plate two years ago for a fee in the region of £18m. The team are reportedly unwilling to meet City's demands, meaning a move to Spain will be off the table unless a compromise is reached.

There seems little chance of Alvarez getting more game time at City next season, with Erling Haaland their undisputed starting striker. However, the fee they are demanding for his signature could prevent him from joining a club where he would play a leading role.

Manchester City's policy is not to stand in the way of players wanting to leave, suggesting that Atletico could negotiate a cheaper deal. There has also been widespread talk of selling Joao Felix, which would potentially give them more money to bolster their hopes of signing Alvarez.

It remains to be seen whether City can convince him to stay and fight for his place, with Pep Guardiola clearly a big fan of his talents. He has previously described Alvarez as an “incredible” asset to his side as they embark on their quest for a fifth consecutive Premier League title.

After Alvarez's brace against Burnley in January, Guardiola said: “Julian is incredible. He is an extraordinary player and many things help us. He is really good, I am very happy for him today. Not only for the goals, but also for the many things he does.”
