Jude Bellingham's celebration has become iconic
Jude Bellingham has been warned not to celebrate his iconic goal after scoring on his Real Madrid debut. Bellingham has scored most of his many goals for the club with his arms outstretched, but Athletic Club players initially told him “you can't do that here”.
After sealing an £86million move to Los Blancos in the summer of 2023, the Stourbridge-born star made an immediate impact for the Spanish giants on his debut, which came on August 12, 2024. It took him less than a half of football to get his name on the scoresheet in an away visit to Bilbao on the opening day of the 2023/24 season.
He showed no signs of nervousness, taking a floating corner at the far post and seeing his shot go over the opposition goalkeeper. As he has done during his three seasons at Borussia Dortmund, the sensational midfielder ran in front of the fans to perform his iconic celebration for the first time in a Real Madrid shirt.

He raised his arms wide open and looked at the stands. In front of him, a section of the Athletic Club supporters reacted by hurling insults at the imperturbable teenager.
After Bellingham finished celebrating with his teammates, Athletic Club captain Iker Munian approached him and angrily asked him not to upset the home fans. Bellingham now admits the veteran Spaniard's advice fell on deaf ears.
Bellingham said in the first episode of his new YouTube channel: “When you celebrate against an opponent, you don't do it to provoke them, you just do it because you're happy to have scored. So yeah, I put my arms out and did the celebration that I always do.”

“I remember some of their players coming to me and saying, ‘You can’t do that here.’ I didn’t listen to them, so yeah, I’ll probably keep doing it.”
Munian's warning failed to dent Bellingham's confidence. The Englishman showed he had every reason to be arrogant in his celebrations by scoring 23 goals and winning the Liga and Champions League double in his first season with the club.
The celebration has since been replicated by a host of sports stars in tribute to Bellingham, including Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos, Spanish tennis phenom Carlos Alcaraz and, most recently, UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov.
