Jude Bellingham has been warned to stop overdoing it in matches, admitting his “body needs a rest” after suffering a leg injury that has kept him out of four Real Madrid games and two England fixtures since late August.

Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Bellingham is ready to make his return at home to Stuttgart in the Champions League tonight (Tuesday).

But the reigning Spanish champions will need to manage their workload to avoid further periods of inactivity. According to bet365 ambassador Clarence Seedorf, who won a European crown as a Real Madrid player, Bellingham would be wise to keep his runs on the gas from now on.

“As a general tip, this is what it takes to stay at the top: lots of hours of work, making sure you stay fit, resting – even during matches,” explained the Dutchman.

“Knowing how to dose his energy. He’s young so he can learn that better. Sometimes he overdoes it in games, he makes runs that aren’t necessary, even defensively. But that comes with experience. He’s going to improve in that area.

“I just hope he doesn’t get injured too often because I would hate that. I really want to see him have an incredible career, but staying healthy and in shape is the priority. I hope he and the coaches are able to manage his energy so he can avoid injuries.”

Bellingham was immense in his first season with Real, scoring 23 goals in all competitions and winning the Champions League. He also helped England reach the Euro 2024 final, taking his total appearances during the campaign to 54.

After just over a year in Spain and his injury having healed, the midfielder has the world at his feet. And Seedorf believes he has enough talent to make a lasting name for himself.

“He has the potential to leave a great legacy,” he added. “Not just at Real Madrid, he also represents England. He has shown that even when he is very tired like he was at the Euros, he can still make the difference and determine games with his personality, his energy, his determination. He has all the assets to become a name that will be remembered in football.”
