Manchester City have enjoyed a tighter recruitment window than usual, with the Blues welcoming just two new signings.

Savinho joined from CFG Troyes at a cost of £33million for the Premier League champions, while former captain Ilkay Gundogan returned to the club on a free transfer from Barcelona.

The story of the summer for City has been one of spending, with Pep Guardiola's side raking in a total of £175million from player sales.

But ahead of the transfer window's end, Express Sport have detailed what City's dream deadline day could look like.

Ivan Toney signs for Manchester City

Envied by the football world, Guardiola is spoilt for choice in his squad… except for one position.

The departure of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid means that apart from Erling Haaland, the Etihad Stadium team do not have a recognised striker in their squad.

It may have been reported that they have no intention of making any further additions this summer, but if a mouthwatering deal involving Ivan Toney has surfaced before tonight's deadline, who's to say City's interest isn't piqued?

Toney has just one year left on his contract with Brentford, making this the last chance for the west Londoners to cash in on his deal. City have money to spend, they need a striker and Toney is available. It's the perfect match, right?

Jack Grealish's decision is made

There was a time when it seemed out of the question that Jack Grealish would finish the transfer window as a City player, such was the speculation at the start of the summer.

Sadly, the former Aston Villa captain is still at the Etihad Stadium and that seems to be what is happening. At least for now.

This is a big season for Grealish and if he is unable to rediscover the form that helped City to the treble two seasons ago, the transfer noise linking him with a move could start to intensify ahead of next summer's window.

Grealish, who has yet to start under Guardiola this season, received a welcome boost in midweek when Lee Carsley named him in his first England squad as interim manager. Now it is time for the 28-year-old to prove himself on the pitch.

City retains squad players ahead of eventful season

Despite the volume of departures this summer, there is nothing to say that there will not be more departures before 11 p.m. tonight.

Guardiola is happy to play with a smaller squad, but with the schedule being more demanding this season, City will not want to be short-handed.

If there are no more entries, City's dream day will also involve no exits.

While James McAtee, Nico O'Reilly and Matheus Nunes may not see much action this summer, keeping them in the squad could be vital if City are to compete on all fronts.
