Erling Haaland destroyed Marc Cucurella.
Erling Haaland has shown no mercy in breaking his silence on a viral chant sung by Marc Cucurella after playing a crucial role in Spain's Euro 2024 triumph this summer. The Manchester City superstar's name is mentioned in the chant, but he spoke on the Stamford Bridge pitch at the start of the Premier League campaign.
Haaland opened the scoring for the visitors in the first half before Mateo Kovacic's long-range strike sealed the victory in the dying minutes.
In the 18th minute, the 24-year-old received the ball in the box before using his power to drive towards goal, ignoring pressure from Cucurella and finishing elegantly past Robert Sanchez.
Viewers were eagerly awaiting the meeting between the pair after the Chelsea defender took a swipe at Haaland during his Euro 2024 celebrations.
Spain beat England 2-1 in the final in Berlin to win a record fourth European Championship in July, with Cucurella setting up Mikel Oyarzabal's late winner.
The 26-year-old, named in the team of the tournament, was enjoying himself on stage in Madrid as the Spanish players savoured their glory with their home fans.
And after inheriting the microphone, he sang a popular chant that has since gone viral to fuel the anger of heartbroken England fans.
The main lyrics read: “Cucurella eats paella, Cucurella drinks Estrella, Haaland trembles at the thought of Cucurella coming.”
Erling Haaland is on his way to the new season.
But after getting the better of Cucurella for his first goal of the season, Haaland was then filmed ignoring the Spaniard's cries for help as he went off injured in the 80th minute.
The City forward walked past his opponent before Chelsea team-mates Enzo Fernandez and Pedro Neto arrived on the scene to relieve what appeared to be cramp.
After the game at Stamford Bridge ended, Haaland took another stab at Cucurella, claiming he had previously asked for his shirt back before disrespecting him with his chant.
He told Viaplay: “Well, Cucurella is a funny man. Last season he asked me for my jersey… and this summer he sings a song about me.”
Haaland was delighted with the manner of his goal – undoubtedly the first of many as City chase an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League title.
“I don't know if you remember last year, Sanchez made a great save on me because he always stays on the line a lot, that's why I took a few extra touches,” Haaland told Sky Sports.
“Then he rushed and I knew exactly what to do. I think it was a very good goal.
“I remember his save last year, it had been irritating me for a long time. That's why I touched the ball harder. It was a perfect goal. It was a beautiful goal.”
