Trent Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool have reportedly offered a huge five-year £78million contract to Trent Alexander-Arnold in an attempt to fend off interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have also offered a similar £300,000-a-week offer for the 26-year-old, with the added incentive of a substantial sign-up fee if he joins them as a free agent this summer.
This left the player in a dilemma, torn between remaining at his boyhood club and potentially cementing his status as a Kop legend, or becoming a marquee signing for one of the world's most prestigious clubs.
Liverpool believe they have done all they can to persuade Alexander-Arnold to stay at Anfield for the early years of his already illustrious career.
There has been no request from the player to become captain as he recognizes he is the natural successor to Virgil van Dijk when the Dutchman's period as a first-team regular comes to an end , according to the Mirror.
Real Madrid are keen to sign him immediately and are prepared to fork out £20million, despite TAA becoming Bosman's free agent this summer.
However, this is non-negotiable for Liverpool, who are currently in the midst of a potential Premier League title season. The player himself is against a January departure, not wanting to upset the balance.
The right-back has remained tight-lipped about his future, sticking to a confidentiality policy on contractual matters, saying: “I've signed four or five contract extensions and none of them have been played in public – and she won.” That won’t be the case either.”
Liverpool are said to be more optimistic about Mo Salah and Van Dijk's two-year extensions as their contracts expire. Like their teammate, they are now free to discuss conditions with foreign clubs; there is significant intrigue coming from Europe and Saudi Arabia for Salah.
However, he appears inclined to extend his stay at Liverpool if conditions are favourable.
