Pep Guardiola is going through the toughest period of his Man City tenure
Pep Guardiola has strongly denied rumors he could leave Manchester City amid the club's current turmoil. The City boss is facing the most difficult period of his managerial tenure, with the team having managed just one win in their last 13 matches in all competitions.
Currently in seventh place in the Premier League, City are 14 points behind leaders Liverpool and face a fight to secure a place in the Champions League knockout stages, leading to speculation about the Guardiola's future.
However, despite the setbacks, Guardiola, who recently signed a new two-year contract, remains determined to turn things around, saying: “Yes, I will try. I will continue.”
“Sometimes you think it will be sooner or easier to solve the problem, and other times it will take longer. But I won't give up. I want to be here, I want to do this, and with the current situation, I It must be done.
“Of course I want it. Everyone wants it. I don't want to disappoint my people in terms of the club, the fans, the people who love this place.”
As City prepare to face Leicester, Guardiola refuses to point the finger at his team for the unexpected downturn in their performances.
His players have won just one victory in their last 13 outings. Despite a long list of high-profile players injured, there is no denying that Guardiola's side appear to have lost the knack of achieving victories.
The latest disappointment came on Boxing Day against Everton, where even with a squad of 11 internationals at his disposal, Guardiola saw his side blow a lead and miss a penalty, resulting in a frustrating draw.
Prominent players including Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Kyle Walker issued rallying cries with no impact on their plummeting performances.
Faced with this crisis, Guardiola is under immense pressure to demonstrate his legendary managerial skills and turn the team's fortunes around. However, he vowed not to blame his high-profile stars for their crisis.
“That’s how it is,” he continued. “I prefer it not to be this situation, but it is what it is. So I try to be as calm as possible, and what I can do is do better in the next match. It's what we want to try is all I can do want to do.
“I don't have in my upbringing the habit of starting to complain, to start pointing fingers at people. It happened. It's life. It's football, so let's try again. It's why we've always had success, because it's always never enough.”
Pep Guardiola has serious work to do to get Man City's season back on track
The City boss remains optimistic about his team's prospects, drawing on their history of success to inspire confidence: “We will try again and again. That's why we have won a lot of titles. Every three days, it was a match and a victory, winning, winning for many, many years. Now we have to do the same thing again.”
Guardiola spoke of the club's impressive haul of 18 trophies since his arrival in 2016, suggesting that looking back on past victories can be a source of motivation during difficult times.
He added: “It's not just now, it's since I came in as manager. I think all of us in our work want to do things well and please people. That's undeniable .There is no question mark. It's easy to understand.
“The biggest test is coming back. It's happened before, we've done it before. It reminds you how good the past was. It's the truth. It makes you realize how good it is well, what we have done in the past.
“Sometimes you have injuries. For so many years we have been incredibly consistent, but now, yes, expect a bit of a drop off, and the main reason is the number of important players injured.
“But I saw the team spirit, the way we practiced, how focused they are, how they try to practice.”
