Manchester City's Bernardo SIlva in action with Everton's Seamus Coleman during the Boxing Day draw at the Etihad. After the match, Silva asked Coleman to wish him the best.
Everton demonstrated their resilience with another creditable draw as Iliman Ndiaye's spectacular goal secured a point for Manchester City. The Senegalese star's delicate touch and deft half-volley at the far post followed Bernardo Silva's opener for the hosts.
City wasted a golden opportunity to regain the lead when Jordan Pickford saved Erling Haaland's penalty. Despite this, the reigning champions failed to break down Everton's strong defence.
But another less noticed incident caught attention after the match: Bernardo Silva's elegant gesture outside the locker room.
Silva had a mixed afternoon on Boxing Day. His deflected goal off Jarrad Branthwaite gave his team the early lead.
However, he missed an opportunity to double the lead just before Ndiaye's equalizer, shooting wide with the outside of his boot after being set up by Phil Foden. The result was once again disappointing for City, but Silva showed his class at the end of the match with a moment that also underlined the immense respect Seamus Coleman has earned throughout his long career.
Silva's move showed his class, as he could easily have been angered by Coleman's antics as Haaland stepped up to take his penalty.
The Irishman politely refused to reveal what he said to the troubled City striker, joking to TNT Sports that he simply said: “Merry Christmas!”
Coleman continued: “We came here to make a point and sometimes you will do whatever you can to win. There was no swearing or anything like that.
“I had a little joke with Ashley (Young, who was unavailable). I said: 'of all the games you could have given me, you gave me Man City away ?!â
