Alphonso Davies is set to leave Bayern Munich as a free agent next summer and Liverpool could hijack Manchester United's efforts to sign him, according to reports. United have been heavily touted as contenders in the race for Davies' signature, but could see the Canada captain join their fiercest rivals.

The 24-year-old's future is uncertain as his contract at the Allianz Arena continues to run until next summer.

United are at the forefront of transfer links alongside Real Madrid, reportedly looking to add another box office free agent to Carlo Ancelotti's ranks.

However, a third major player could come into play at Liverpool at the end of Arne Slot's first season at the helm.

The Reds' need to find a long-term successor to Andrew Robertson becomes more pressing with each subpar performance.

And according to Bild, Liverpool could arrange a meeting with Davies' agent Nick Nuoseh when he lands in England as part of his tour to talk to interested clubs next year.

It is claimed that Huoseh is set to prove himself in the new year before Davies decides whether he wants to stay at Bayern or take on a new challenge.

The report adds that the 24-year-old is open to trying something new away from Germany, but is not settling on United or Real as potential destinations.

Contract negotiations with Bayern have also reportedly been suspended until next month, with Liverpool said to have a chance to lure him to Anfield.

However, United and Real's admiration appears to be more concrete than Liverpool's at the moment, while Bayern are pushing for him to sign new terms.

The Bavarians are currently on course to regain the Bundesliga title and resume their dominance in Germany.

Vincent Kompany's side currently lead champions Bayer Leverkusen by four points at the top of the league, having won 10 games and lost just one of their 14 matches.

Bayern still have work to do in the Champions League, as do many of the competition's heavyweights.

They sit in 10th place, one point outside the top eight (automatic qualification for the knockout stages), with a trip to Feyenoord and a home clash with winless Slovan Bratislava remaining.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are sitting firmly at the top of the Champions League, winning all six of their matches so far, scoring 13 times and conceding just once.

If Slot can continue his stunning run of success and achieve European glory first time around, there will be no greater pull factor for Davies or any other big-name target.
